What are VOCs?
VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) are Carbon-based volatile organic compounds are emitted by some sources from the home as well as the surrounding environment. Once they are mixed in the air, many types of VOCs have the ability to bond with each other or with other particles in the air to create new compounds. Some mixtures are of natural origin, others are not very toxic.
However, the VOCs term is often used to refer to a mixture of airborne toxic organic substances derived from man-made products such as toluene, xylene and lacquer thinner. During the bonding process to form the paint layer, the VOCs released from the paint are the total of the volatile organic compounds released from the painting process, excluding water.
VOCs are also present in many products we use every day such as detergents, cosmetics, room sprays, insecticides, construction materials or arise from office equipment such as copiers and printers, etc
How do VOCs affect human health?
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), 9% of compounds make pollute the environment are due to VOCs content. The American Lung Association (ALA) reports VOCs can cause eye and skin irritation, lung and respiratory problems, headaches, dizziness, muscle weakness or damaged liver and kidneys, etc
